The concept
Our project concerning the K39 building is based on the Mietshauser Syndikat model – MHS, an ‘apartment-house syndicate’. The concept is a cooperative, and non-commercial arrangement and its goal is to provide communities with long-term, affordable living spaces. The group of people who live in this space decide together how much rent they will pay for their apartments/flats. Residents co-own the building for as long as they live there.
How it started
In May 2019 a group of people known as “The Crew” occupied 39 Kaiserstraße to make a political statement regarding the living situation and housing policies in Reutlingen. As a result, it was possible to negotiate purchasing the land and beginning to work towards setting up the K39 project.
Current stage of the K39 project
81% of the required funding to secure a mortgage has been sourced from people supporting the project through direct loans. The project is currently in the planning stage, an application to build has been submitted to building authorities in Reutlingen and once this has been approved the land can be purchased.
Details around the project
12 people will be able to live in K39 once it has been renovated to the required standard. There will be room for 4 people to live on each of the three levels.
